If you spot a newly leaning tree with signs of root movement, the first move isn’t to grab a comealong and try to straighten it — that’s appropriate for a young, recently planted tree with an intact root ball, not a mature specimen with a compromised root plate. Pulling on a large leaning tree, or worse, having someone climb it to assess the canopy, can be exactly the wrong move if the root system is already partially failed.
